The organization was established in 2000 by Jean and Matthew Dart alongside Barbara Newman. Barbara soon stepped aside, leaving Jean and Matt as directors and primary financial supporters.
The organization has grown significantly over time, becoming a tax-exempt, 501 (c) 3 health education nonprofit organization, providing events, a health article blog, a monthly newsletter, products, videos, an online directory, the charitable “Hearts to Hands” program, an alternative and complementary medicine glossary, and more than 40,000 followers on social media.
Twenty-six years on, every one of those resources remains free to the community — funded by the founders, our board, and the practitioners who give their time to teach.
