Accessibility

Everyone should be able to use this site — whatever device, browser or assistive technology you use.

The Monterey Bay Holistic Alliance wants montereybayholistic.com to work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, voice control or other assistive technology.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard most accessibility laws point to. We check the site ourselves on phones, tablets and computers whenever we make changes. It has not yet had a formal independent audit.

What we’ve done

  • Keyboard access — every link, menu, button and form works without a mouse, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to main content” link at the top of each page. Escape closes the menu and search.
  • Screen readers — pages use real headings, labelled form fields, descriptive text for images, and announce form errors and search results.
  • Readable text — colors chosen for contrast, text that resizes with your browser, and form fields large enough that phones don’t zoom in.
  • Easy to tap — buttons and links on phones and tablets are at least 44 pixels tall.
  • Less motion — if your device is set to reduce motion, animations and moving backgrounds are turned off, and rotating quotes stop on their own.
  • Works at any size — every page adapts to phones, tablets and desktops without scrolling sideways.

Known limitations

  • Other companies’ pages. Payments open on Stripe’s checkout, bookings use Google Calendar, and videos play on YouTube. Their accessibility is up to them, but tell us if one gets in your way and we’ll help another way.
  • Downloadable PDFs, such as the Healthcare Survival Guide, may not work fully with every screen reader. Ask and we’ll send the content in another format.
  • Links to other sites. Some links open in a new tab; most say so, but a few older pages don’t yet.
  • Sources we link to, such as medical websites, are outside our control.

Tell us about a problem

If something on this site is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, please let us know. Tell us the page and what happened, and we’ll do our best to fix it or get you what you need another way.

We aim to reply within five business days.
